OB/GYN Billing Services Built for Today and Ready for the CPT 2027 Transition

OB/GYN Billing & Coding Best Practices

Billing and coding for OB/GYN services are complex, and coding missteps can cost you. Today’s OB/GYN practices experience preventable claim denials and rejections due to global maternity billing errors, unsupported modifiers, coding errors in gynecologic procedures, and insufficient documentation to support medical necessity. Accurate OB/GYN billing and coding rely on precise clinical documentation, compliant coding, and careful adherence to each payer's billing requirements. Our workflow integrates with evolving maternity billing as we prepare documentation, EHR templates, fee schedules, charge capture, and payer workflows for phase-specific obstetric billing codes in 2027.

We Don’t Bill Everything. We Bill OB/GYN

OB/GYN medical billing and coding are detailed and specialized; many general medical billing companies don’t have the specialized OB/GYN expertise it demands. Between global maternity claims, deliveries, postpartum care, gynecologic procedures and surgeries, and IUD insertions/removals, every variation of a procedure has to be coded correctly. And that is exactly why practices need an obstetrics and gynecology billing services company that works on these claims every day, not one learning on your account. BillingFreedom’s OB/GYN billing and coding experts help practices achieve cleaner claims, compliant coding, fewer denials, and payments that arrive faster.

Frequently Asked Questions About OB/GYN Billing

What is changing in coding for OB/GYN starting in January 2027?
Effective January 1, 2027, traditional global maternity care codes will be retired. Instead of reporting antepartum, delivery, and postpartum care under a single global maternity care code, practices will report maternity care services in four phases: Antepartum care, labor management, delivery, and postpartum care services.
Will CPT codes 59400, 59510, 59610, and 59618 still work in 2027?
No. Deleted codes are invalid for dates of service on or after January 1, 2027, and claims systems and clearinghouses should reject them. Services on and after that date must be reported using the new phase-specific codes and E/M services. Dates of service before January 1, 2027, continue to be billed under the current rules, meaning most practices will run both models simultaneously for several months as older claims work through A/R.
What happens to our existing A/R and denied claims?
Your existing A/R and denied claims are not abandoned. We start by re-analyzing balances, identifying recoverable claims, correcting claims with billing and coding issues, considering resubmissions, and appealing and following up with payers until resolution. We separate and categorize balances based on credentialing issues, timely filing issues, coding errors, missing documentation, or other limitations so your practice gets a realistic recovery plan.
What is included in the free OB/GYN revenue cycle audit?
After completing BAA and with secure, read-only access to 90 days of billing data for five business days, our COBGC OB/GYN billing and coding experts evaluate your practice across 13 key performance indicators. You receive a report identifying revenue leakage, specialty-specific billing gaps, the estimated financial impact of each issue, corrective recommendations, and your readiness for the January 2027 maternity coding changes.
How quickly can BillingFreedom begin working with our practice?
Here’s what happens. In the first few days, we complete the BAA, get portal access, audit your claims, and open A/R so we may know what we are inheriting. From there, we create a structured transition plan covering portal access, workflow mapping, payer information, outstanding claims, reporting, and team communication so we can begin services without unnecessarily disrupting your daily operations.
